Have you ever had a particular song or scent give you a nostalgic feeling? A quick flashback to good times with endless laughs and great company?


In the midst of you taking that trip down memory lane you think to yourself “I was really living life back then,” or “I was so happy when I was…” You then start to realize how different things are, and for some reason you never realized how much you’ve changed until this very moment. Suddenly it hits you, somewhere along the way you lost yourself.


You stopped having fun, stopped being social, and stopped living life. You started worry more, becoming more self-conscious, and letting others dictate the way you feel. The more you think about it the more you realize you’re not the same person you use to be. Where did the old you go?


It’s time to start your “I have to get back to me” journey.

It’s time to start doing the things you used to do.

It’s time to get out of the house, meet new people, and visit new places.

It’s time to find your happiness.

It’s time to find yourself.


Here’s what you need to do next, take time to reflect on the 5 W’s. Who, what, when, where, why and how. Ask yourself these questions as it pertains to the time in which you lost yourself. If applicable, who was the reason? What happened? When did it occur? Where did the shift take place? Why and how did you lose yourself? Asking these questions will give you the insight you need to NOT repeat this same mistake again. You cannot afford to lose yourself to the bullshit.


Losing yourself is different than changing because of growth. Yes, people change every day, but when you lose yourself, it’s usually not for the sake of improving your life. It’s usually done unintentionally and happens so discreetly that you never notice until it's too late. Most often than not, you were too occupied with something else going on that you didn’t even notice part of yourself slipping away.


Going forward, check in with yourself periodically. Take inventory and evaluate how things have been going, evaluate your relationships with others, and track your progress. Protect your vibes, take care of yourself, and make a vow to never lose yourself again.
