4 Essentials to Being Thankful That Will Inspire You
With Thanksgiving approaching, what better time than now to talk about true thankfulness. The kindness for thankfulness that brings tears to your eyes and joy to your heart. As with most families Thanksgiving is a time when everyone shares what they are thankful for. “My family, health, and finances” are usually at the top of the list for most people. While it’s good to recognize the obvious, there are so many “little things” that deserve recognition as well. Most of us tend to overlook the small things until we are around someone less fortunate, or what we once had has been taken away. Only then do we think “could’ve, would’ve, should’ve”.
We should express our gratitude every chance we get, not only on Thanksgiving. When the focus is on true gratefulness, your whole life will begin to change for the better. You’ll experience a new level of happiness and peace that you’ve never experienced before.
For example, I am thankful for God getting me through difficult situations that seemed impossible. I am thankful for my strength, and being able to forgive others. I am thankful for the ability to love and inspire others. I am thankful for my eyesight, being able to walk, and having the freedom to choose how I want to live my life. I am thankful for my hearing, seeing the sun rise, feeling the wind breeze, and being able to sleep in peace. My list could go on and on but you get the point.
Here’s how you can start showing true thankfulness:
1. At the start of your day, name a few things you are grateful for.
Doing so will brighten your mornings and give you motivation to get your day started. Instead of complaining about another work day, you’ll be excited to see what the day will bring.
2. The next time you feel frustrated or angry, make a list of everything you are grateful for.
You’ll be surprised at how quick your mood changes and the anger disappears.
3. Before you decide to complain about what you don’t have, focus on the things you do have.
Remember things could always be worse. If you want to add more to your life, set a few goals to work towards.
4. Tell a close friend or family member just what they mean to you.
This could be just what someone needs to keep pressing forward. You can give a thank you card, or a small gift to show your appreciation. Ask yourself when’s the last time you said “thank you”?
Psalms 118: 1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His faithful loves endures forever.
1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18 Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances…
